I know what you are thinking, here is another person saying how dinner seminars have died.
Well, that’s not all truth!
I know tons of advisors that are having extreme success when it comes to dinner seminars. Bringing outrageous amounts of AUM.
That being said I do believe the way you get a prospect/buying unit to a dinner seminar has died. Yes, I am talking about Mailers.
Let’s just take a look at these stats…
- 80% of people are online
- 1.2 billion people use Facebook
- Average user checks Facebook about 20x a day
Check this out…
This is from a research Google completed on Baby Boomers use of the internet. This was in 2013 so imagine what that looks like now. (To get access to the full pdf. Click on the link at the bottom of this blog)
Let’s break down what an average dinner seminar runs.
50 cents a mailer and you send out 10,000 mailers = $5,000
$40 a plate 30 people show up = $1,200
That is about $6,200 on one seminar. Let’s dive deeper…
Out of that seminar you get
- 71 people RSVP’d
- 48 people showed up to the seminars (total combined audience for both nights)
- 5 appts made
- 1 rescheduled and never showed up
- 1 visited the office but left quickly with no further action
- 3 new clients with a total of $1.12 million with $500k of investable assets remaining
- 1 client with $1mm in investable assets and 50% chance of working with me
Now let’s do the same thing but you do a Facebook Ad.
Design and creation of Ad = Free (check out my previous blog on how to create facebook ads for free)
Post for $20 a day max out about 2 weeks to run on Facebook. $280
Dinner still cost you: $1,200
Your Welcome I just saved you $5,000!
Now let’s just say you only get 15 people to come to this event. The best part about online marketing is the ones that did not show, you can now retarget. Which is just a fancy word for send them emails and continue to drip on them.
So the next event you won’t need to run a Facebook ad because you will be able to send an email to the past attendees that did not show.
This is a much better option than just sending out 10,000 mailers each time you have an event. And running on that hamster wheel.
So the real question is why are more not marketing online…
It’s because we think it’s too difficult/expensive to get started. This is the most incorrect statement out there!
Here is the perfect Facebook ad layout.
Check out “4 easy steps to create a Facebook ad image”. Here you will find the ease of making a Facebook image that will convert.
Opening text: “Will your money survive another market drop?
Headline: Retire well What are the wealth doing differently.
Description: “Discover 5 simple rules the world’s greatest investors use that can help you retire better.”
Once they click on your Facebook Ad, it should direct them to a landing page. You can easily create these by using companies such as leadpages.com or instapage.com
The best part is they will have pre-made templates like the one below where you can just place your information.
The information you must include:
- Event timer
- Registration button or a place to insert name, email, phone number
- Event details
- Instructions on what to expect: email should arrive, directions, what they should bring
- Speaker BIO
Pretty simple right?
Once the leads/buying units start registering you start following up.
To recap: Dinner seminars have not died but mailers will be soon.
